Ramban: Hand Weaving Development Department, Ramban today held a one-day awareness camp in Jatgali village of Rajgarh block to sensitize weavers and the craft community to social assistance program and various sponsored programs at the central level launched for the benefit of the hand-weaving sector.
BDC President Sonika and SDC member Mohammad Zargar informed participants about social assistance schemes in addition to advising them to reap the benefits.
During the camp, the PRI and more than 150 weavers and artisans from different parts of the watershed were familiarized with the projects and activities of the handloom sector by the resource persons. These include a credit card program for artisans and weavers and a financial support program for artisans and weavers cooperatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director Handloom Narsing Dayal Verma also highlighted various other social protection programs such as Pardhan Mantri Weaver Mudra program, education program, loan to buy / renovate / modernization of looms and lending of share capital.
He further pointed out that weavers should adopt best practices and adopt a new design also replacing old pit looms with modern shuttle looms so that the quality of the products and their gain will improve.
The Department also distributed weavers cards to the community of weavers / artisans, in addition to setting up stalls of hand-woven and hand-woven products.
The inhabitants of the region appreciated the department and demanded the organization of more such camps in remote areas.
