Real Salt Lake loans Bret Halsey to Colorado Switchbacks FC

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake has loaned Bret Halsey to the USL Championship Colorado Switchbacks FC for the remainder of the season, the club has announced.

RSL reserves the right to terminate the loan agreement if necessary.

Halsey, 22, joined Real Salt Lake in 2021 after being selected with the 7th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft. He was also a member of Generation Adidas after his tremendous college career at the University of Virginia.

Halsey battled injury in 2022 and has only appeared in 3 games for the Real Monarchs in the MLS Next Pro competition. Last year, however, Halsey played 19 games for the Monarchs while they were still members of the USL Championship. Halsey started out playing at right-back, but also spent time playing in the heart of midfield.

Currently, the Colorado Switchbacks are ranked third in the USL Championship Western Conference behind only San Diego Loyal and San Antonio. The change of scenery for Halsey will provide another opportunity for the talented youngster to develop his skills and return to RSL in hopes of impressing management in next year’s pre-season.

Next game of Real Salt Lake

Real Salt Lake will travel to Seattle for a date with Albert Rusnák and the Sounders.

Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 14.

The match will be available to stream for free via the KSL Sports and KSL 5 TV apps or on KSL Sports dot com.
