This Hawks-Mavericks trade is all about John Collins

The Dallas Mavericks are a team that seems to want to go for it this NBA season. This may be the last chance they can get a big deal done as Luka Doncic’s rookie max extension kicks in at the start of next season.

All the moves the Mavericks have made in free agency this past offseason have not paid off as they had hoped. Reggie Bullock has seen a massive regression from his shooting last season with the New York Knicks. Tim Hardaway Jr. has seen his production drop since signing a four-year, $75 million deal.

Dallas might consider forgoing those deals, especially if they want a chance to re-sign impending unrestricted free agents Jalen Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith.

A salary dump of this size is probably easier to achieve during the regular season. For now, the Mavericks will be looking to make improvements to the roster.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMOR: Mavericks trying to get into mixed trade for Myles Turner, John Collins

The frontcourt seems to be where they will focus their efforts. Two players they have set their sights on are Indiana Pacers’ Myles Turner and Atlanta Hawks’ John Collins.

Turner has been available for years, while Collins is growing frustrated with his role and may be looking for a change of scenery.

Acquiring either player won’t be easy as there will be a ton of interest in them, driving up the price. But, Mark Cuban wants a winner in Dallas and they will do everything they can. Here’s a hypothetical deal they might choose to offer Collins.
