Defense Headquarters (DHQ) said on Thursday that Operation Hadin Kai troops killed a Boko Haram commander, Abubakar Sarki, in Sambisa Forest, Yuwe, Konduga Local Government Area, in Borno State.

The military high command also said that the troops during the clearance operation killed the Emir and the spiritual leader of the general Gaita region, Mallam Shehu and some of his infantrymen.

Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Benard Onyeuko, who said this when briefing journalists on the successes of military operations across the country between April 28 and May 19, 2022, said that a total of 1,627 Boko Haram terrorists and their families surrendered to troops at different locations.

According to him, they include 331 men, 441 women and 855 children.

General Onyeuko also said that as of May 16, 2022, a total of 53,262 have so far surrendered.

Speaking further, he said troops arrested Mallam Modu Goni, a terrorist and logistics provider at Bunin Yadi market based on an intelligent report.

“As part of his operational activities, on May 17, 2022, Mallam Modu Pantami was apprehended on the outskirts of Benishied village in Kaga local government area while attempting to transport a large amount of logistical items that he had purchased for later supplies to the terrorist at Gomari village in Fere Local Government Area of ​​Borno State.

“Items recovered from him include; 2 mobile phones, cartons of assorted drugs and injections of different types, 5 gallons of PMS, 20 turban scarves, 50 kg bags of sugar, 3 50 kg bags of flour, 5 cartons of Maltina drinks, 290 sets of female hijabs, 20 women’s rubber shoes, 325 liters of red oil, 15 caftan sets, 5 black pants, 5 boxes of macaroni, 6 boxes of spaghetti, 3 boxes of candy, 4 date mudu (Dabino), 5 bags of drinks soft drinks, 4 dagger, 3 cartons of maggi, 1 large basket of kola nuts, 10 boxes of matches, 5 bags of detergent, 10 rubber mats and the sum of two hundred thousand naira (200,000.00 naira) only.

“Troops carried out ambush operations at the terrorists crossing point in Kadieri village where the operation originated. 5 terrorists were neutralized with assorted weapons and different calibers of ammunition captured from the terrorists.

“As a result, during these operations, the troops rescued 63 civilians, neutralized 42 terrorists, arrested 20 terrorists. Also, recovered 2 LMGS, 21 AK47 rifles, 11 AK 56 rifles, 22 MG, 419 rounds of 7.62 mm and 54 mm ammunition, 1 turret, 31 AK 47 magazines, 3 motorcycles, 6 bicycles, 1 pump, 2 cartridge belts containing 377 rounds of 7.62mm and 54mm, 1 Isuzu vehicle,” he said.
