Wolverhampton Wanderers want Ruben Amorim and have put him at the top of their list to replace Bruno Lage following his sacking.
Wolves have decided to part ways with boss Lage, announcing his departure from Molineux on Sunday night.
Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham United proved to be the end for Lage as Wolves pulled the trigger.
Lage leaves after 51 games in charge of Wolves, recording 19 wins, 10 draws and 22 losses during his time at the club.
Just one win in eight Premier League games this season has been Wolves’ big problem and Lage now finds himself out of work.
Wolverhampton Wanderers want Ruben Amorim
Wolves now have to look for a new manager and it’s no surprise that Portuguese options are linked again.
Lage and his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo are both Portuguese and 10 of Wolves’ first-team members hail from Portugal.
Pedro Martins is a key name in the mix at the moment, but another Portuguese boss is believed to be on Wolves’ radar.
The Sun Report that Wolves want to land Sporting boss Ruben Amorim as a replacement for Lage.
It is stated that Amorim will be high on Wolves’ wishlist in the coming days – even though Amorim will cost £20million in compensation.
Amorim caused a stir as a manager, even dating back to him winning 10 of 13 games in charge of Braga in the 2019-20 season.
Amorim then took over Sporting and guided them to the league title in 2021.
Now with 85 wins and just 17 losses in 118 games, Amorim is one of the most exciting young managers in Europe at just 37 years old.
Getting Amorim away from Sporting won’t be easy, but it would be a coup for Wolves if they can pull it off somehow.
Amorim was a target for Chelsea before appointing Graham Potter with Sky Sports claims that Todd Boehly had held talks with the Portuguese boss over a move to Stamford Bridge.
That move didn’t work out, but Wolves can now offer Amorim the chance to manage the Premier League – just on a rather different level of expectation.
